There are three competitions for members of the Society of Ornamental Turners:

The Lady Gertrude Crawford Gold Medal Competition for conventional ornamental turning excluding rose turning, The Fred Howe Gold Medal Competition for a combination of ornamental and rose turning methods, and The H E Twentyman Silver Medal Competition
for work of predominantly plain form with an element of ornamentation.

Winners also receive a Company Certificate. If the best entry in any of these competitions is by a previous winner, that competitor cannot be awarded another medal but will receive a Certificate as “Master of Ornamental Turning”.
